What is time off accrual? How to allow for time off accrual?

Time off accrual refers to giving you access to your yearly time-off amount, bit by bit as each month goes by.

Example

Let's use John Doe who has a hire date of January 23,2024.

He has a time-off policy that gives him 10 days of vacation time after working 6 months. If accrual is NOT enabled, this means that he will get access to his full 10 days of vacation on July 23, 2024. This is 6 months after his hire date.

If accrual is enabled, but no start date is selected, this means that the vacation time will start accruing when his threshold of 6 months has passed on July 23rd, 2024 and each month he will  get access to 0.83 vacation days. This number is equal to the number of days allowed (10) divided by the number of months in the year (12).

If accrual is enabled and a start is selected, this means that the vacation time will start accruing when the accrual start date arrives.

Setting up time-off accrual

To enable the accrual setting, you first need to go to the settings module. From there, click the 'view timeoff types' button.

On that page you can view a summary of all existing time-off type settings. Click on the time-off type row for the type that you wish to edit.

Enable the switch on the right of the question 'Does this type accrue?'. As well as pick an accrual start date if there is one. You can leave the start date blank if there is none.

Finally, click the update button at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
